In her column Deborah Orr tellingly said that "The
fates of Israelis and the Palestinians are bound together". Arguably this would definitely be true if
instead of a two-state solution to the conflict there was a South African
one-state solution. This would
necessitate both peoples working around their cultural and religious differences
to live peacefully and prosperously. Given
the fraught state of affairs at the moment, this solution looks arguably just
as difficult to get to as having two functioning states. Unfortunately the Palestinians are stuck with
blood thirsty Hamas, and do not have a forward thinking leader like the late Nelson
Mandela to lead them forward.
