Yasmin Alibhai-Brown had a right to be outraged about first
and second generation migrants being told to be automatically grateful for
where they live. But I would like to
point out that this is merely a lazy (and racist) extension of a common right
wing refrain for left wing concerns that they cannot be bothered to construct a
coherent argument against. The insinuation
is that we hate our country. What they
can't get their head around is that sometimes it is a good thing to deliver
hard truths about either things or people we care deeply about.
